TN fire department decision: controversial

Bryan Fischer Firefighters Controversy

http://action.afa.net/Blogs/BlogPost.aspx?id=2147499026

I agree with the ideas that legally and morally as a legal entity the city fire dept. was bound by liablity insurance and contractual legalities and such.

I would not agree with the idea that they were “christian”. The word “christian” should not even be a description here.

This is a link to the Websters defintions of christian http://1828.mshaffer.com/d/search/word,christian
No organization can act christian, they can act within or without the law.  They can follow a moral code.  But they are not christian.  As a legal entity it cannot be saved or born again.  They may be a religious organization under the law, but this was a city fire department not a religious organization.

If the individuals living on that street wanted to exhibit christian principals of living/doctrines they could have stepped up and helped their neigbor.  But the firemen were part of a legal entity – not this man’s neighbors.  Now I detest all of this legal nest we live in America today.  But that is the result of the sin in the world.

So many times organizations are tied up by legal, insurance, & governmental rules/regs/laws. The ones at fault here – morally and legally is the homeowner.  And morally at fault, any neighbor that did not step up.

Conservatives Have Grace

Grace: Defined on the freedictionary.com a. A disposition to be generous or helpful; goodwill. b. Mercy; clemency. I was reading this interesting article – even though I am not Methodist.  And I was curious about a statement that was made.

http://revdsky.blogspot.com/2009/09/dividing-by-zero.html

Conservatives often (not always) seem to be lacking in grace. Liberals often (not always) seem to be lacking in accountability.

It is possible that the use of the words conservative and liberal were referring specifically to the philosophy’s of the church.  Perhaps it was about conservative Methodist thought vs  liberal Methodist thought.  I couldn’t comment on that because I know nothing of the specific politics within the Methodist Church.  However, if it was a general statement, about general politics,  at least for the many conservatives I know, online and in person, they have grace.  They have what I would term individual grace.

They do not feel it is the state’s (government, both fed and states) responsibility, using taxpayer monies, to give grace.  They feel its their own personal responsibility to help their neighbor.  But as individuals and groups that give grace we do expect to find ultimate responsibility – we give our resources to help solve the problem behind the symtoms.  We, as conservatives, do not agree with state grace.  So to say conservatives lack grace, is not true.  Even if its prefaced with not always.  Because the current social climate seems to believe in state grace.
